Road conditions are dreadful this morning in the Melksham Area, and looking at the Internet it seems that it’s not much better elsewhere across the County.
None of us were expecting weather quite this bad this year, but I do wonder where the gritting lorries have been overnight. These pictures show the A365 Devizes Road by the Bowerhill roundabout and it is clear that the road has received little treatment.
We all understand that the minor roads and estates will not be treated but surely the A365 should be!
I remember that in a council meeting last year my colleague Cllr Trevor Carbin was roundly criticised by Tory Leader Jane Scott for asking about grit and salt levels. She assured councillors that there was plenty of stock and that all roads would be properly gritted to schedule. Personally I think these pictures tell another story….
Police are advising all motorists to avoid travelling unless it is essential this morning, and looking out of my window and seeing the cars struggle as they pass my house this seems like good advice. Please take care out there if you must travel.
UPDATE: 13:00 – Conditions do appear to be improving from 9am this morning when I took those pictures but it is still treacherous on the estate and minor roads. Still snowing now, with more forecast for late, which with freezing temperatures mean that driving will be interesting for a few days yet!1 Comment
